Northern California / Southern Oregon RV Trip
There’s so much beauty out there. Sometimes you need to fly to see it, sometimes just drive….
Some information below and pictures coming soon.
RVs
Since it was our first RV trip, we prioritized comfort over the length of the trip. So, we got the newest RV we could find. We found a 2019 24’ RV in Sacramento and we booked it through Outdoorsy. But you can also try Bliss RV. To help us get to the pick up location at a good time, we spent the night before picking up the RV at an AirBnB in Sacramento.
The Route
Our plan was to make a loop starting from Sacramento, drive to Bend and then head West to the Coast before heading down South and back to Sacramento. Most of the bookings were made on either Recreation.gov or Reserve America. But we also used Harvest Hosts and HipCamp. We made bookings at both but only stayed at the HipCamp in Mendocino. The Dyrt and Campendium were also useful for campsite reviews. If you know how far you want to drive in a day, you can also use google maps to search for camp sites close to where you’ll be. That’s how we found one of our favorite spots - Bay Point Landing.
The itinerary
These are the places we stayed and some of what we did. We didn’t stay at the places in orange but they are better options than where we stayed. Why not learn from our trip! The options are endless but if possible do as many 2 night stops as possible and plan around your interests. You can also make shorter or longer stays in places.
RV Life
It can seem intimidating but it’s worth it. Get a big enough RV that you’ll be comfortable living in it and also comfortable driving it. The administrative part of the RV life is managing your resources….both incoming and outgoing… After a few sewage hook ups, you’ll get the hang of it. Disposable latex gloves and rubber gloves should be #1 on your packing list.
