BACKGROUND

We’ve always been drawn to the depth, softness, and natural variation limewash and mineral finishes bring to a space, but consistently found it difficult to source craftspeople who could execute them at the level we were looking for.

In several cases, clients hired specialty painters independently and were disappointed with the results. The finishes often lacked the subtle variation, restraint, and material sensitivity that make these walls feel timeless and refined.

That experience led us to develop our own growing practice focused specifically on architectural finishes and limewash application. Through years of testing products, techniques, tools, and application methods across different lighting conditions and environments, we’ve built a process centered on consistency, craftsmanship, and an understanding of how light interacts with a surface.

Our preferred products are from Color Atelier, whose mineral-based finishes align closely with the warmth and depth we aim to achieve in our projects.

Our Process

One of the most important parts of our process is creating large-scale sample boards to test colors within the actual space. Small color cards are useful for narrowing a palette, but they rarely capture how a finish will behave across an entire wall. Application technique, layering, texture, and changing light conditions all affect the final result.

Our process typically includes:

Meeting with the client or designer to understand the space and overall vision
Discussing tone, texture, color, and the atmosphere the room should carry
Producing large-scale sample boards, often through multiple iterations, until a final control sample is approved
Scheduling and executing the application with careful attention to consistency and finish quality
